The Environmental Education/Conference Center planned to be built at Kennekuk County Park, has been in the planning stages since 1995, when it was put forth by the education staff as a request for a new education facility. Public meetings with local legislators, officials, and organizations, resulted in a building design to satisfy the area's needs, addressing environmental education, green technology advances, economic development, employment and a tourist destination for meetings, conferences and workshops. The facility will serve as the headquarters of the Middle Fork National Scenic River.
The Vermilion County Conservation District Foundation is the lead organization of the project. Farnsworth and Associates is the lead architectural firm. The Vermilion County Conservation District's Outdoor School Program is now in it's 38th year. It is the anchor education program of the VCCD and it's time for a new facility at Kennekuk County Park. Grants are available to off-set the cost of the $4M project, but we need private donations also. If you went through our Outdoor School Program, or utilized any of our education programs, please help anyway that you can. No donation is too small. To donate, send to the Vermilion County Conservation District Foundation at 20301 E 900 North Road, Westville, IL 61883 or call for more information at 217-662-2142. The VCCD Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization.
